Interns gain experience in areas such as community outreach, program development, policy research, communications, and nonprofit operations. Through mentorship and guided projects, participants will build practical skills, expand their professional networks, and deepen their understanding of issues like social justice, equity, and community empowerment.
Helping Ourselves to Transform (HOTT) provides a dynamic internship program that engages college students in meaningful, hands-on social justice work. Our interns come from diverse academic fields—including sociology, human services, public policy, political science, criminal law, business, and psychology—and gain practical experience in research, advocacy, mediation, and program development. Through mentorship and real-world projects, students contribute directly to systemic change while developing the leadership skills, cultural competence, and professional networks needed to excel in their future careers. In most cases, students receive class credit for their participation, and when funding is available, stipends are provided during summer hours to support their contributions.
