Interning at Helping Ourselves To Transform has allowed me to reach a deeper understanding of mass incarceration and the advocacy and legislative efforts working to challenge it. Dr. Carmen and our team’s passion for creating meaningful, community-centered change has been both inspiring and transformative. Being able to be a part of the behind-the-scenes work of advancing legislation showed me how much commitment, collaboration, and determination is needed to push initiatives forward. This experience has truly shaped the way I understand and approach justice, equity, and the work required to create real, lasting change. These lessons and experiences will guide my future endeavors and shape my path in criminal justice work and reform.
