Tamia Boyer, M.S., CHST, has a strong background in education and empowerment. She has a dual career that spans over two decades. Her primary career spans 31 years in Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) workplace safety regulatory compliance for construction companies that employ formerly incarcerated individuals. Her secondary career, spanning 21 years, involves adult education, including Adult Basic Education (ABE), GED, ESL for Life Skills, and Workforce Development in correctional facilities, community colleges, non-profits, and faith-based organizations.
Boyer holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology (Pre-med) with a major in Chemistry/Education and a minor in Education from Mississippi Valley State University. Mississippi Valley State University is the first HBCU in the state of Mississippi to provide college degrees to persons incarcerated. She also earned a Master’s in Industrial Hygiene and Safety from the University of Washington, Seattle. Boyer is the first African-American to obtain an MS degree in Environmental Health from the University of Washington in 1997. She is certified to teach Adult Workplace English as a Second Language (ESL) OSHA 10/30 Construction Industry, and OSHA HAZWOPER. Furthermore, she holds the Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) designation and is an active member of various organizations, including Washington Metro Area Safety Construction Association (WMASCA), National Association of Black Women in Construction, Maryland Asssociation of Adult and Continuing Education (MDAACE) Washington DC/Maryland TESOL Associations, Washington Literacy Association, Northern Virginia Literacy Association, Prince George’s County (MD) Literacy Association, Montgomery County Literacy Association, DC Water, City of Alexandria’s (VA) Office on Women, City of Alexandria, VA Police Department (Domestic Violence Prevention Unit), Maryland Job Corps (Woodstock, Woodland), Prince George’s Family Crisis Center, South Jackson (MS) Community Development Association, Working Together (MS) Jackson, Mississippi Job Corp (Crystal Springs, Batesville), Parchmen (MS) Correctional Facility, Tutwiler (MS) Correctional Facility, Hinds County (MS) Juvenile Justice Center, Central MS Correctional Facility, Mississippi/Alabama/Tennessee TESOL Associations, National Safety Council and Louisiana Safety Alliance Council. Boyer’s adult teaching and mentoring philosophy of adult education specializes in building confidence, enhancing people and critical thinking skills, developing leaders, reducing stress and worry, increasing sales, and other business-relevant skills development areas.
