President of the Board, Helping Ourselves to Transform (HOTT)
Sonja Owens, President of the Board at Helping Ourselves to Transform (HOTT), is a woman of compassion, resilience, and tenacity, dedicated to helping others build more fulfilling, emotionally stable, and productive lives. Motivated by both personal and professional purpose, she earned her Master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling in 2020, became a State Board Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor in 2022, and is currently completing her credentials as a Licensed Certified Professional Counselor (LCPC). In her daily work, Sonja advocates for clients facing mental health challenges, equipping them with coping strategies, goal-setting skills, and tools for self-advocacy. Her commitment extends beyond counseling to championing individuals impacted by incarceration, where she addresses the compounded emotional and mental health effects of systemic injustice. As HOTT’s Board President, she brings both professional expertise and a deep commitment to advancing healing, equity, and justice for marginalized communities.
