DaMarqus was recently released from a 14-year prison sentence. He was originally sentenced to 85 years at the age of 16. While he was incarcerated he spent his time in the law library working to get out of prison which also lead him down the path of helping others. Thankfully, some things worked in his favor and he was able to be released from prison.
DaMarqus is now advocating with Helping Ourselves to Transform by giving men, women and youth the tools to assimilate back into their communities from behind the wall. He is a striving Muslim of 16 years with the focal point of his continued growth in his faith and to bring social justice and human rights awareness about the Muslim community. DaMarqus seeks to bridge the gap with understanding and education with all communities on stereotypes and misunderstandings that make Islam a target for hate crimes and physical abuse toward Muslim men, women, and youth.
